TRASH COLLECTION INFORMATION

Waste Management, Inc. (321) 723-4455

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON WEST MELBOURNE RESIDENTIAL SOLID WASTE COLLECTION

Here is a link to trash collection information.  Trash is collected on Tuesdays and Fridays.  Additionally, on Tuesdays only, recycling is collected (the yellow-lid trash can).  Also, on Fridays, lawn waste is collected.  Use a separate can for items like grass clippings and leaves.  Any piles of tree branches larger than 4 feet by 4 feet will require a special pick-up by waste management.

If you hire a lawn or tree service company, that contractor must haul away the waste.  Please be sure they include that service in the price.  In respect for the peace and quiet of others, lawn care and construction must not start before 8:00AM.

In accordance with our covenants and restrictions, trash cans may be brought out the evening before trash collection and must be taken out of sight before the end of the trash collection day.

Pet waste.  If your dog or cat poops anywhere outside your yard, then the poop must be picked-up immediately.

Some frequently asked questions about trash collection…

Q.) Can I use trash containers other than those provided by Waste Management?

A.) No.  Only the trash carts delivered by Waste Management can be used for refuse disposal (green lid) or recycling (yellow lid).  Trash left outside those carts will not be collected.  One exception is with yard waste collected on Fridays.  Waste Management does allow us to use supplemental store-bought cans for tree branches, leafs, grass, etc.  For large bulky items that do not fit in the WM-provided trash carts, you must contact Waste Management at (321)723-4455 to schedule a special pick-up at no additional cost.  Alternatively, you could take your items directly to the dump on Sarno Rd.

Q.) Do I need to place my trash carts and trash cans by the street in a particular way?

A.) Yes.  Waste Management trash trucks use a robotic arm to lift and empty your trash carts.  Trash carts should be placed at least three feet apart.  The lid-hinge-side should face away from the street.  The trash carts and any supplemental trash cans (yard waste on Fridays) should be placed in the grass between the sidewalk and street –not on or in the street.  Branches may be placed on the ground, in piles up to four feet in length.  Do not place plastic trash bags by the curb.  Except for branches and bulky items, trash must be placed in a container.
